Rei has an extra power which she uses in her human form as well as Senshi form. It's something like an anti-evil charm. It consists of a slip of paper called an "Ofuda"on which are written several Japanese characters which roughly translate to "Retreat Evil Spirit". Rei throws this at the suspect evil's forehead, yelling either (in the dub) "Mars Fireballs Charge!" or anything along the lines of "I banish you evil spirits!" or (in the original) "Aku Ryo Tai San!" (which is what the ofuda has written on it) . The ofuda sticks to the evil creatures forehead, and freezes it in it's tracks, giving the senshi time to either "moon-dust" it or get away. FYI: In the NA version, part of the scene where she invokes her ofuda is cut out: a warrior standing amidst the flames. However, in "So you want to be in the pictures" (Series 2, episode 2) they left the warrior in.
Rei lives with her grandpa, who is (in the Japanese version) often called "ecchi" or a pervert because he looks up the skirts of the girls that come to the temple, and is always offering them jobs there. The reason for her living with him isn't (to my knowledge) explained in the anime version, but in the manga it's because her mother died when Rei was young, and her wealthy father is too busy with his job to spend time with his daughter. It has been said that is it because of this that Rei is sometimes very harsh and makes herself out to be strong and somewhat self-absorbed, while inside she is lonely and insecure. In the manga, Rei dislikes her father for not spending time with her. This brings up another subject: Why Rei goes to a different school than Usagi/Serena, Ami/Amy, and Makoto/Lita.
Rei goes to T*A Private Girls Junior High School (I'm not sure of the NA dub name), because her father can afford it. She is the queen of the school. All the other girls want to be just like her and are happy to wait on her and obey her every command. It's no wonder Rei is the school president. ^_~ One thing that I have always found interesting is that while Usagi/Serena, Ami/Amy, Makoto/Lita, and Minako/Mina's school uniforms all have skirts that go past the girls knees (and they don't all go to the same school), Rei's school uniform isn't quite so conservative.
